Eyes on the River

Eyes on the River is a citizen-based environmental monitoring network focusing on the health and enjoyment of the Lafayette River in Norfolk, VA.

The “Eyes” mission is to promote environmental stewardship and education about the diversity of wildlife living in Norfolk as well as build a network of citizen first responders to aid in ongoing river monitoring and restoration efforts.

Multiple locations around the Lafayette River host “river posts” where citizen scientists can make photographic observations of the Lafayette River as well as notate wildlife sightings, shoreline vegetation, fish caught, algae blooms, etc. These observations are archived by the Eyes on the River initiative for future use by scientists for environmental studies.

Photos can be submitted from anywhere along the river, not just from the posts.
